Ride Report

Saturday 21 January, 2012 – Tuesday 31 January, 2012
Those in attendance were:
Wor Bro Craig „Deano‟ DEANE
Wor Bro Alan „AB‟ BURTON
Wor Bro Rick GONINON
Wor Bro Paul GONINON
Phillip GONINON

Saturday 21 January:300klms
At last, the day had arrived for the start of our long awaited for road trip and with yours truly having had the Shadow serviced, now packed and ready to roll, bade farewell to her indoors
at 1140hrs and headed for Deano‟s place to collect the first of our ride group. Upon arrival, and knowing that Deano was just as eager as the rest of us to ride off into the distance, I was astounded to find that he wasn’t ready!!!!! To be fair, he did have his son and daughter and in law there with their first born who at 9 weeks old, is taking some priority over Deano‟s actions.
That said, and with some rather harsh prompting from yours truly, it was farewell to the Deane clan who had assembled in the driveway to wave us off.
Off to the BP Servo at Brighton to fuel up and meet with Rick, Paul and Phillip we, as a group, ventured up the Midlands Highway (I’ll never complain about that stretch of Highway again – more later) heading for our first pit stop at Perth. Light refreshments had, it was off to Devonport to meet with the Spirit of Tasmania
(SPOT).
With a re-fuel at Devonport, it was off to the boarding desk to get our tickets and join the queue to board SPOT. That done, and having passed through the security/quarantine checks, we lined up with a number of other bikies, sorry, motorcyclists, who themselves where heading home having completed their own road trip around Tassie. They were all very complimentary with their comments of the roads in Tassie for motorcyclists re: bends etc: and of the hospitality afforded them, whilst around various parts of the State.
Once on board, we headed for our respective cabins with Deano & I sharing a twin cabin while Rick, Paul & Phillip shared a three berth cabin. Bags dropped off within the cabins, it was off to find something to eat before a few light ales as a nightcap were had. Whilst relaxing with a cold one or two, yours truly was accosted by one of the SPOT Stewards who stopped in front of me and with a grin as broad as SPOT itself, pointed straight at me. With strange looks from the rest of the group my first thought was that, as some would say I also work in the hospitality field, I may have afforded him some hospitality in times past, but he wasn’t familiar at all. As he approached closer, I braced myself for confrontation by hiding behind Rick, who wouldn’t, before the words “I was taught to be cautious” were uttered by the Steward. We then realised that he was pointing to the Masonic Square and Compasses and other Masonic memorabilia, as attached to the
leather bike vest as worn by myself. Introductions had (I can’t remember his name?) it turned out he is also a Mason and is a member of The Pacific Lodge, not that we held that against him, although he hasn’t attended a lodge meeting for some time, due to his current work roster. Another a drink or two later, we turned in for the night to ready ourselves for a big ride the next day.

Sunday 22 January: 430klms
Docking in Melbourne on time, we were one of the first group off which is always good to do. Rick, unfortunately, got stuck behind a tractor (a Harley for those not up speed with bike talk) whilst waiting to disembark the SPOT, and inhaled a substantial amount of exhaust fumes, burning oil Rick?? Helmet off quickly, he had a coughing  fit  which  quickly  brought  about  comments  with  regards to the experiences of the Tasmanian Chapter Riders who rode behind him when riding his own tractor prior to purchasing his current ride, a Honda CB 1300.
After a quick ride brief from our Road Captain Deano, and with Paul riding as Sweep (Rick as Ride Marshall) we headed afterwards Geelong, Torquay and the Great Ocean Road but not before stopping at a BP Roadhouse for breakfast, just past Avalon Airport and the turn off for Lara.
Hitting the Great Ocean Road, we were not alone as riders with an array of „locals‟ riding hard and fast on their „patch‟. We did in fact stop at one point (a scenic lookout) and got talking with a bunch of local riders, who said that this was one of their regular Sunday rides.
With various stops namely Split Point Light Station and London Bridge in particular, our next pit stop was at Princetown were we re-fuelled and had a cold drink and/or a icy pole. I can’t recall whether the next two events were just before or just after Princetown but either way, the following occurred. Deano, being out in front as Road Captain, encountered a Fox as it sauntered across the road in front of him before realising that evasive action was required before becoming another road statistic, namely road kill!!! Having heard/spotted Deano bearing down on him fast, the Fox went left, then right before literally jumping in the air, spreading all four legs wide and with eyes wide in panic, dropped to the road before darting off to the side of the road and
into bush. Had Deano taken evasive action, he would have collided with the Fox. Had the Fox not darted right and off the road into bush and taken a left turn instead, yours truly would have „cleaned him up‟ for sure.
Further along the road as we rounded a bend, Deano put the customary „hand up‟ signalling caution/to stop, as a farmer was shepherding a flock of sheep across the road from one paddock to another. Phillip, realising a split second too late, hit the anchors rear brake first and screeched to a halt in a cloud of smoke. All I could see in my mirrors was Phillip sliding towards me, as well as sheep in front of me running for their lives!!!!
Excitement over, we arrived safely at our first overnight stop being Heywood, were we indulged in pizza and beer for dinner (pizza ordered for delivery, with Rick heading for the bottle shop, to bring back some cold amber fluid after a long days ride in 36 degree temp)

Monday 23: 271klms
Leaving Heywood at 0700hrs in order to get a good hour or so ride in before the temperature started to rise, we headed for the South Australian border with our destination being Mt Gambier
some 90klms or so away. Arriving in Mt Gambier, it was off to the hotel where they served all day breakfasts. Bacon, eggs, big breakfasts ordered with various cold drinks (juices) ordered, we settled into the breakfast room to admire the building itself with high ceilings and period architecture.
After brekkie, Rick, Paul and Phillip departed to see their rellies while Deano & I crossed the road to take in the Cave Gardens which is a marvel in itself. That done, we headed for the Blue Lake which was true to it‟s title.
Meeting later with the infamous GONINON trio, we departed Mt Gambier for Bordertown, our next overnight stop. Whilst the road was good even though it was as straight as the eye could see, we were buffeted by strong, hot gusty winds resulting in high RPM‟s on our trusty machines. Rick stated later that on average, his
RPM @ 100klms/hour was 3,500. With conditions as mentioned, it rose to 5,200 RPM.
A trip to the pub for some liquid refreshment at the bar, before a shopping trip to the supermarket for some meat etc: for a bbq, a stop at the bottle shop was had, for some more fluid whilst at the bbq.

Tuesday 24: 418klms
Again with an early start, we set off for Mildura via Pinaroo and Renmark. Accordingly to our ride coordinator Deano, we were supposed to ride through a State Forest. What Forest???
(there were a few trees either side of the road – does that count??)
It was on yet another long straight piece of road, that we encountered a family of Roos hopping alongside of the road when, yes you guessed it, they chose to „play chicken‟ crossing the road in front of us. They were big buggers as well, not like their smaller Tasmanian cousins. With Deano and Rick braking hard, followed by yours truly, Phillip and Paul (no skid marks - so to speak - this time Phillip) we managed to avoid some serious damage. Whilst we did encounter several more „families‟ along this stretch of road, they stayed to their side of the road. No wonder the area is called Pinaroo. We very nearly pinned a couple along the way!!
With a brekkie stop at Pinaroo itself, we saddled up yet again heading for Renmark. Whilst riding through the township, Rick noticed a Lodge Building. A quick stop for a photo and a stretch of legs, it was off again for our destination of Mildura, riding in 39 degrees.

Arriving in Mildura and booking into our cabins, it was a walk to the bike shop down the road for a quick look, a trip to the shops for lunch, before returning to our cabin park to change into bathers/shorts for a dip in the pool. How delightful it was too although yours truly, despite the high temp, complained that the pool water temp was cold, having ventured to put in my big toe first before jumping in. Woos!!!!!
Dinner was off to the Gateway Hotel, a short walk up the road, where the special of the day was had. Parmagiana‟s for $10 with vegies and chips................it was a big meal. Paul and Phillip chose steak, but wished they‟d had pyjamas too.

Wednesday 25:
A lay day was had in Mildura, where we decided to take a morning trip up the Murray River, on PS Melbourne, a Paddle Steamer celebrating it‟s centenary this year. A taxi was booked by
Deano for the journey into the City, where breakfast was had by all. It was then a stroll to Apex Park, where we boarded the PS Melbourne. It was during same, that we entered a working „lock‟ being lowered in height, to meet the level of the Murray further up/down? river. On the return trip, we entered the „lock‟ again,
returning to our original height.
River trip over, we could all feel a cold one coming on so it was off to the Mildura Brewery to sample the local stuff. Upon entry, Rick noticed that you could get a „sample tray‟ of the beers they produced, so off to the bar with a request for five (5) sample trays. In all, there were eight (8) samples to try which, at $10/tray, wasn’t that bad mind you, none of us were too keen on trying anymore as they weren’t to our taste.
A quick walk around the City with lunch had by some, a call to the cab company was made after which, a thirty (30) minute wait was had in 40 degree heat.
Back „home‟, it was into bathers/shorts for yet another refreshing dip in the pool before showering and heading out yet again, to the Gateway Hotel for the evening $10 pyjama special.

Thursday 26: 377klms

Australia Day saw us leave Mildura early, with our destination being Echuca via Swan Hill. Entering the Township of Euston, NSW we were undecided as to which road to take when,
noticing a Police Station, it was decided to stop and ask the local constabulary. Deano, as he was walking to the front door, was met by an officer at time, Deano said “good morning”. I‟m not sure what language they speak in NSW, but he was ignored with the officer heading straight for our group with a stern look on his face.
Upon reaching us, a lecture was received for stopping to close to a roundabout, we were off the main road on a side road with no traffic whatsoever, and he said, stopped in a loading zone. What happened to friendly „country cops‟??? He did however point us in the right direction for Robinvale, our planned breakfast stop,
but not before saying that we could get a good breakfast down the road. We declined the offer, as we were not sure if there would be any parking or not?
Into Robinvale for brekkie and a chat with a few of the locals, who themselves were having a coffee at their local cafe.
Stomachs satisfied, it was off for Swan Hill were we re-fuelled the trusty machines. There was always a discussion between Deano and Rick about what fuel we should use with Deano preferring BP, and Rick Caltex. Personally, I didn’t care as long as we did re-fuel as a few times so far during the trip, I was running on reserve.
Outside of Swan Hill, we saw where the famous „Willow‟ is grown for our cricket bats.
Into Echuca and our Cabin Park when having dumped our gear, we rode into town for a look around. That done, we found a local fish and chip bar which served freshly cooked fish and chips at a reasonable price.
Lunch had, a late lunch at that, we were in need of something to wash it down with so Deano, Rick & I headed for the pub while Paul & Phillip chose to head for Holden Motor Museum and a look around there.

Friday 27: 305klms

Leaving Echuca for our next destination being Griffith, NSW via Deniliquin and Findlay, we again encountered miles and miles of straight road during which time, we saw wild Emu‟s on the
side of the road/highway - all except Deano that is. I think he had had enough of wild life on the side of roads and stopped looking even though on numerous occasions, we narrowly missed those wascally wabbits as they ran across in front of us to the point where one ran right between the wheels of Rick‟s bike with Rick actually lifting his feet off the pegs, to allow it to pass underneath him!!!! Very kind of you Rick.
Lunch was had at a Caltex Roadhouse in Findlay, which caused panic for the local attendant. Having seen five (5) bikes pull in for fuel, then head inside for breakfast, she said that she was overwhelmed at such a number and actually got on the phone and called in some re-enforcements‟ to cope with „the rush‟.
Panic over, we rode out for Griffith on yet another wonderful piece of straight road. Arriving at Griffith Caravan/Cabin Park we met Brian, a fellow Mason, who himself had not long arrived, as this was where all the National Chapters were staying as well. That said, they had all arrived the previous day, and had chosen to ride to a liquorice factory some 200 odd klms away. It would want to have been good liquorice!!!
Again, we dumped our bags in respective cabins and then rode into town for some lunch.
No names mentioned, but having purchased lunch at a local bakery being 24 chicken nuggets and chips, no joke, Deano chose to eat his tub of ice cream first before eating his lunch, saying that it would melt otherwise!!!!! At least Rick ate his lunch first before having his dessert.
Back to the Cabin Park and into shorts again, for a cooling off splash in 40 degree heat after which, we returned tom our cabins, showered and changed into more shorts and a clean top, to await the return of our colleagues from their day trip, and the evening bbq as planned/put on, by the Central Coast Chapter.
Whilst waiting, Paul & Phillip headed for the bottle shop to gather some more liquid refreshment, as we had to
keep up our fluid intake due the high temperatures.
Day trippers returned, we arranged the bbq for, conveniently so, in front of the cabin as shared by Rick & I.
With old acquaintances met and with new ones introduced, the bbq was underway, with plenty of tucker provided by our hosts. As always, there was the usual Masonic stalls set up, with merchandise being sold by “special price” Webby, being joined by Bongo distributing coffee mugs, beer glasses etc: as previously
ordered and RU (pronounced Roo) selling his protective Masonic Bells, imported directly from America for the meeting, to attach to the bike of purchasers – yes I bought one!!!
We were also joined by members of the local Masonic Lodge being Lodger Ibis, who very kindly offered their Lodge Room for our AGM on Saturday and the provision of supper in the South afterwards.
A good night was had by all.

Saturday 28: 200klms
Having had breakfast in the Township, we all met as one outside Lodge Ibis @ 0900hrs for a scheduled photo shoot and narrative, with a reporter from the local newspaper (Deano has asked
for a copy to be sent to him) Formalities over, several of the Lodge Ibis members, themselves fellow riders, took us on a sightseeing tour of the local area before arriving at our first destination being the Black Stump, home of what is believed to be,
the tallest bar in Australia.
Drinks and social chit chat had, some of the group rode on to the next destination for lunch whilst a number of us chose to stay and return to Griffith from here. Paul & Phillip chose to ride on for lunch, and I am not sure as to exactly how far their round trip was?
Our return trip to Griffith was done so in a downpour of rain, with Deano, Rick, Webby, Jason and I, arriving in Griffith soaking wet with Deano and yours truly having our boots full of water. Squelch, squelch. With hot coffee‟s had, we returned to our cabins to shower and freshen up for the AGM @ 1600hrs.
Arriving in plenty of time, conversation was had with Lodge Ibis members. Our National President called the meeting to order at 1600hrs with the Agenda items as listed, including a yearly report read and submitted by yours truly as President of the MMAA Tasmanian Chapter, and general business discussed, was conducted in the usual Masonic manner.
It was during general business that in short, after some robust discussion, it was agreed by the majority present that the next AGM being 2013, would be hosted the Tasmanian Chapter. A fantastic result for our Chapter for which I am certain, that all members will get behind and support your committee to ensure we are well represented during his time and that we yet again, as with the Easter Road last year where we acted as hosts, ensure a successful and positive meeting is achieved.
Meeting concluded, we retired to the South for supper of which was a credit to members of Lodger Ibis and just as importantly, the wives/partners of members. Thank you to all.
A raffle was conducted by the Central Coast Chapter, with proceeds going towards assisting the nominated charity.
A presentation in appreciation of the support received from Lodge Ibis, was made by yours truly for which a bound collection of Masonic Lectures was presented to the Worshipful Master. This was made possible, through the cooperation and support of the Freemasons Tasmania Public Relations Committee in particular,
Very Worshipful Brother Alan A‟CHURCH, and was presented on behalf of the Tasmanian Chapter with acknowledgement and recognition of the MMAA National Body.
The evening was closed in peace and harmony by our own Worshipful Brother Rick G, with all returning safely to our respective places of abode.

Sunday 29: 352klms
The Tasmanian Chapter joined with the Victorian Chapter and left early, 0645hrs, for the ride South with Webby and Jason heading for their homes in Melbourne, while we were heading for our
next overnight stay at Seymour. As with our ride to Griffith, a pit stop was had at Findlay where the owner of the roadhouse was in attendance, and took our orders in a calm and relaxed manner – unlike our stop as previously mentioned.
The only break in a boring stretch of road, was when farmers were herding cattle across the road where we had to come to a complete standstill. When passing through the herd, we noticed that one of the cows had enough, choosing to lay down in the middle of road and would not budge. Guess McDonalds‟ are happy?
Another boring piece of road although as to be expected, the volume of traffic increased the closer we got to
Seymour/Melbourne. Stopping at a roadhouse some twenty (20) minutes out of Seymour for a coffee, farewells were given/received by all, as Webby and Jason took another direction on their journeys home.
Arriving at Seymour, Rick & I headed for a Car Club meet for which was in the throes of packing up being late in the afternoon of yet another hot day.
Returning to the caravan/cabin park, yet again shorts were donned for a splash in pool although only Rick & I ventured in with Deano catching up with some friends – yes, we were surprised he has some too!!! With Paul & Phillip having a siesta?
Deano‟s friends suggested the pub across the road for dinner, saying that they have eaten there a few times and have always a good meal with good portions served. They did actually return later that afternoon and joined us for dinner. No disappointments, great meals at a good price.

Monday 30: 120klms
Today being our last day in Melbourne and last day of the trip, we all had differing agenda‟s, and left Seymour on a rainy morning. That said and with the rain having stopped, we all met in
Elizabeth Street around 1300hrs, and as usual, a walk through the bike shops was had. Curiosity had, we saddled up and headed for St. Kilda were a stop in Ackland Street was had.
Which shop to go in, as all the cakes and goodies looked good??? Decision made, Rick, Deano & I headed into the Ackland something or other shop, pastries and cream being bought, washed down by a good cup of coffee.
Having walked up and down Ackland Street, we met Paul & Phillip for the short trip to ferry terminal where later, Jason rode in to join us for a fish and chip dinner, before the Tassie 5 boarded SPOT for our return trip home. We knew we were in for rough trip, as the wind was exceptionally high so much so, that when SPOT
finally arrived, she had to guided/assisted by a tug boat into berth.
Having again said farewell to Jason, we took our place in the queue meeting a group of riders who were heading to Tassie for their own tour.
Once on board, and dumping our bags into virtually the same cabins as came across in, you guessed it, it was off to the bar although no one drank alcohol to start with, choosing the purity of H2O.
You wouldn’t believe it, but we had the same crew as we sailed over with, with our Masonic friend acknowledging our presence.
Once under way he came over to us and said that it was going to be a rough trip once out of the shelter of the Bay, which would be around 2330hrs. After having a few drinks, both Paul & Phillip retired early with Deano, Rick & I choosing to stay up till the magical hour, and see how rough it was going to get.
Out of the Bay, it was evident that it was going to get rough as we started to roll about and take some
water/spray over the top of the boat, as evidenced by our presence on the outside rear of Deck 10. Trying to
walk straight, which we could have done had we have been drunk, it was off to our cabins to bunk down for the night.
Did we sleep I hear you say? Not likely, it got that rough being tossed from side to side, and climbing and then sliding down huge swells being met with thunderous bangs at the bottom, no one slept with Deano & I, having a Port Hole Cabin, spending most of the night watching SPOT disappear under a wall of water only to
see open water again as we reached the peak of yet another swell, before crashing down again.
We did hear a bit of yodelling from the cabin of Rick, Paul & Phillip but being the gentleman that Deano & I are we will not divulge who that person was, in view of him being the youngest of our group.

Tuesday 31: 300klms
Arriving safely in Devonport, we were again amongst the first off and sped away for our first pit stop being the roadhouse at Perth, to both re-fuel the bikes and have a bite to eat for brekkie.
All done and with farewells given, we headed down the Midlands Highway, bends and all, for our respective homes.
Ride/road trip verdict: A great road trip was had by all, one of which will be remembered for a long time for a number of reasons not least, the long consecutive days in the saddle where all of us, at some stage, got saddle sore.
Finally, many thanks of appreciation to Deano for his organising the road trip. Whilst yours truly assisted to some degree, it was Deano who organised all of our accommodation, including the return on SPOT. Great
job.

Apologies: Word Bro Tony BRUCE-MULLINS & Rosemary
Charmane DEANE

Firstly, my apologies to our mainland Masonic counterparts for not acknowledging their respective Masonic rank. I, at the time of writing and during your recent stay, did not take the time to find out.
Secondly, again my apologies if I have forgotten and subsequently omitted to name, those who may have attended the Easter Ride. My recollection is that I have named everybody who at some stage, took part in the said ride(s) below over the Easter Period.
Thirdly, on to the various daily ride reports.
Friday 22 April: The long wait since the AGM @ Young, NSW in January 2010 when the concept of an Easter Ride to/in Tassie was first mooted by Duffy, had finally abated with Deano, Burn Burn Burn, Paul and AB meeting up at the BP Servo in Brighton, for the ride North to Campbell Town for our first stop en route to Devonport.
Hobart and Tassie in general the previous week, being drenched by unsavoury downpours and inclement weather, were met with rain/showers on this day with wet weather gear being worn all the way to Devonport. Not a good start to our long awaited adventure, although the rain/showers did stop North of Campbell Town.
Having booked into our digs for the night being the Big 4 Cabins (and very comfortable too although Deano claimed the double bed – the others were bunks - after giving the rest of us a choice of beds – how did that work?) we headed for the A???? Hotel to meet Bob CRAWFORD & Leigh WELLS. Having been told by Bob that the Spirit of Tasmania (SPOT) carrying our Victorian counterparts was running 2hrs late, it was decided to have an early tea, instead of waiting as per our original plans. Tea had, and hearing the arrival blast of the SPOT horn, we headed to the wharf to meet Webby, Chris & Jason, before heading back to our digs at the Big 4 were all of us were staying. Having finished off a bottle of „quaffer quality‟ whisky, only joking Deano, being Johnny Walker Swing and sampling some of Webby‟s Chateu Le‟ Cardboard Merlot all retired to their beds, well, bunks for some, for some shut eye (it‟s too late in life for any of the aforementioned to get some beauty sleep) before an early start on Saturday morning to meet the overnight SPOT and Central & NW NSW counterparts.
Saturday 23 April: Having met Duffy, Bongo, Graham, Trevor, Wendy, Warren & Lyndell and with greetings and salutations given & returned, we set off for our first stop being breakfast at the Elizabeth Town Cafe (ETC) Yours truly being the Sweep, had a great view of a total of 14 bikes in front of me as we rode in formation to what turned out to be our first stop, the Caltex Servo in Elizabeth Town were some members/riders needed to fuel up for the trip South, while some headed to order brekky at ETC.
Having stopped at the said servo, yours truly encountered trouble with the Shadow in that it wouldn't start, with a flat battery being named as the cause. With a set of leads from the servo and with assistance from Bongo, the Shadow was restarted at which time, Bob & I rode to straight to Launceston for a new battery. This turned out not to be the case as the battery was checked and found to be fully operational with no cause for concern. What happened?...Who knows but for the rest of the trip and to date so far, the bike has started first time every time.
Meeting the rest of the group at the Caltex Servo in Perth and re-grouping, it was off down South towards Campbell Town, where we stopped for a quick „pit stop‟ and to rendezvous with Shakas & Kellie. On through Campbell Town and left onto the Lake Leake Road to Swansea, it was on this stretch of road that our mainland colleagues encountered what we in Tassie take for granted – magnificent roads with long sweeping bends instead of the long stretches of straight road as per the mainland. Stopping at the Bark Bush Mill for lunch, again, no disappointment with the quality or quantity of all meals, the usual banter reserved amongst bikers, alright then, motorcyclists, was had.
Nourished and with bikes re-fuelled too, it was off again down the magnificent East Coast with fantastic scenery on the left (alright Webby, the Port Side) being Maria Island and everything in between and rolling green hills etc: on the right (yes Webby, the Starboard Side) Oh yeah! I forgot to mention, it was a beautiful sunny day too which made it, as always, an even more enjoyable ride.
On down to the turn off at Finger Post Road, onto the Campania/Richmond Road, we headed for and through, the historic township of Richmond. Throughout and again, a great ride was had by all, with long stretches of sweeping road with the bikes being treated to some „opening up‟ along the way.
Out of Richmond we turned onto Sugar Loaf Road, being met by some tight corners, familiar to the „locals‟. It was on one such bend, a bend that suddenly turns sharp right halfway round that Wendy decided to see just how far she could lean her bike over. With a loud scrape of the right hand floorboard, a wobble and turn, Wendy regained control and rode through the bend. Well done Wendy, although I honestly thought that you had „lost it‟.
Arriving at the Big 4 Cabins at East Risdon, our guests signed in for their stay and found the Cabins and site in general, to be very accommodating being very clean and tidy. That done, the „locals‟ left them to unpack and have tea at the local l pub next door, the Risdon Tavern, arranging to meet the next morning, Sunday, @ 0930hrs.
Sunday 24 April: Craig, Bob, Leigh & I having arrived at the Big 4 Cabins on the East Derwent Highway to meet our guests, were informed that one our guests had succumbed to the fresh air, the tranquillity of Tassie and the previous day‟s ride down the beautiful East Coast and had slept in? Yeah right!!! Enough of the niceties‟. One of the group, who shall remain nameless as Webby said not to put this bit in, sampled two (2) bottles of the vino with his dinner the previous evening followed by a nightcap of a few nips of Rum....well half a bottle anyway. Needless to say, this unnamed person spent the night yodelling to the porcelain god reciting mort than his ritual...........or should that be regurgitating? Not satisfied with that and feeling slightly embarrassed, went for the sympathy vote and came out claiming to have slipped and banged/cut open his forehead just above the left eye, for a band aid was clearly visible. Everyone say aaaawwwwggggghhhh!!!!! For once, yours truly wasn't the victim as I was on home soil and not playing away from home................figuratively speaking!!!!
Anyway, finally arriving at our usual meeting place of Montrose Yacht Club it was very pleasing to see the turnout of 15 bikes/riders and three pillions being 18 all up. It was here that the Easter Bunny arrived aka Deano whom some say, looked like a right bunny too, giving out Easter Eggs for one and all. They were of course sent by his better halve who couldn't, unfortunately, make the ride. Thankyou Charmane.
The ride already planned for the day, it was off North a few klms up the Brooker Highway, before turning left towards Glen Lusk and Collinsvale on what was a narrow in parts and winding road, all the way to the Lyell Highway coming out at the Boyer Paper Mill.
A stop for a quick tour of the Derwent Valley Lodge (DVL) courtesy of Rick & Paul, where a brief history of the Lodge was given by Rick after which, it was inside for some group photo‟s . Mounting our trusty steeds again...............no! I‟m not going there, it was off following the River as it snaked through the Valley as we headed for Westerway via Glenora. Arriving at Westerway, it was to the Possum Shed we went for a light snack of scones, jam & cream ( and more cream in Deano‟s case), toasted raisin bread, coffee and tea‟s. Photo‟s taken and all, it was off again heading for Bothwell via Meadowbank, Hamilton and through Dunrobin. What can I say? As we locals well know, this is a great stretch of road and one which is well suited for a quick „spurt‟ and an opening up of the throttle to get rid of a few cobwebs which, on a perfect day for riding as this was, was done and enjoyed by all.
Arriving at Bothwell safe and sound it was into the local, Castle Hotel, for our what is for us locals, our usual stop for lunch. Yours truly at least, ate too much having had a steak ordered by Deano of which literally filled the dinner plate and coming chips and salad. Talk about bloated!!!!! The bike didn't go as fast after dinner as it did before with the extra weight!!
All fed & watered, it was time to head off again, but not before farewells were given to Bob & Leigh who, being from the North of State, Launceston & Devonport respectively, would be leaving us at Melton Mowbray and riding North once we reached the Midlands Highway.
Reaching the Highway, Bob & Leigh went North whilst the rest of the group headed South towards our final destination re: our guests being back at the Big 4. Waves and toots given to Rick, Paul, Shakas and Kellie Deano and AB turned left at the roundabout at Bridgewater to ride through amongst other places, Otago Bay and our final destination of East Risdon, where we bid farewell to our mainland counterparts.
Monday 25th April: With Rick & I arriving at the Big 4 @ 0915hrs, we found that there was „no one home‟ with not a bike in sight. We decided to head into Lindisfarne for a Latte, alright, we had a flat white, we found our „lost tribe‟ coming out of Lindisfarne Village having, we assumed, already having eaten their brekkies and heading back to the Cabins. Rick & I having had our morning coffee, returned to the Big 4 where we found „the tribe‟ duly congregated. It was then we heard the shout “look out, here comes Shakas with his L Plates on”. Shakas came into view with his usual travelling companion Kellie as pillion, on the back of Kellies Hyosung Aquila. This came about as Shakas Trumpy is badly in need of a new tyre with the old one showing well and truly, signs of wear and tear to the extent of being worn right through in parts.
It was at this time that farewells were said and given to one of our Victorian colleagues namely Chris PACKHAM, who had to return to Melbourne on the evening sail of the SPOT. Not knowing how long the ride would be, down to Port Arthur, Chris decided to remain behind in order to pack etc:
Farewells given, a total of 12 bikes and 3 pillions being 15 in total set off for our destination, non-stop to Port Arthur, via Sugar Loaf Road, Richmond, Finger Post Road, on to the Arthur Highway through Sorell, Dunalley, Eaglehawk Neck etc: Again, a great day for a ride with the weather holding out with no rain in sight, a good ride was had to Port Arthur although we were at times, frustrated by slower moving vehicles in front namely campervans. Into the cafe at Port Arthur, pies and hot drinks were the main order of the day, followed by various cakes & slices. With no takers for a tour of this historic and scenic destination, it was off again through the Township of Nubeena before a photo stop was had at the Blow Hole. Snaps taken, it was off again for the short ride to the Tessellated Pavement at Eaglehawk Neck where snaps having being taken yet again, it was off for an even shorter ride to the lookout, for some more holiday snaps.
It was here, unfortunately, that disaster struck in that we had a „domino effect‟ of falling bikes. I‟m really not too sure how in fact it happened other than Phillip and Paul were at Phillip‟s bike when it fell onto Paul‟s who‟s fell onto Kellie‟s with all three bikes ending up on the floor. As for damage, scrapes, dents on all bikes and a broken brake lever on Kellie‟s bike, being the outcome.
Photo‟s taken, we were off again for a fuel stop at Dunalley at which time, we became fragmented with yours truly, whilst filling up and being Sweep, not knowing who had stayed after stopping and who had decide to ride on. With Paul & Phillip riding past, I decided that they were the last and took off in pursuit of same during which, I saw Shakas and Kellie up ahead then Rick as Ride Captain, ahead even further.
Through Sorell and on towards the airport it was at this stage, that some of the group went their various ways to their respective homes.
Monday evening: A bbq was organised by the Tasmanian Chapter to be had at the Big 4 Cabins venue for all. Sausages, homemade burgers & chutney/relish, damper, onions, bread, sauces etc: were cooked by Deano and yours truly, being washed down with Cascade and Chang, varying wines as donated by Deano (on ya! Deano) and varying other alcoholic, and non alcoholic beverages, being had by all. Again, thanks to Charmane for making/providing the burgers and the shopping for sausages, damper/breads etc:
In all, a good evening in good company was had by those in attendance, for which was a fitting end to the MMAA Tasmania Easter Ride, 2011. It was during this time, that the National President Gary DUFF announced that the next MMAA AGM would be held in Batemans Bay, NSW next January 2012, for which all would be advised of the exact dates/times etc: so that both accommodation and travel arrangements could be made well in advance.
Trevor CAPARARO suggested that at the next MMAA AGM, the Tasmanian Chapter be given the opportunity to host an AGM in Tasmania which was well received by all.
With the evening drawing to a close, goodnights, farewells and thanks of mutual appreciation were given by/to all as this was officially, the end of the Tasmania Easter Trip for most.
Tuesday 26 April, 2011: With Trevor & Wendy and Warren & Lyndell staying on in Tassie for an extra few days, yours truly met with Gary DUFF, Terry GARDINER, Graham WILLIAMS and Terry WEBSTER @ 0900hrs to act as escort to Campbell Town, on their way to Devonport to meet the evening sailing of the SPOT. Jason BASILIK had departed earlier that morning @ 0600hrs as he was meeting with his father who resides in Longford? before meeting the others in Devonport later that day.
Arriving in Campbell Town, bacon & egg rolls with coffee were had by all except for Terry W, who chose to have a full breakfast before yet again, handing part thereof to Gary to finish. Whilst in the cafe, we were joined by Bob CRAWFORD who had ridden down from Launceston to relieve yours truly and act as escort for the next leg of the trip. Breakfasts consumed, farewells were exchanged with the words „see you in Batemans Bay‟ being said by all. Bob escorted the group to, I believe Latrobe? were he handed over the reins to Leigh WELLS who came down from Devonport in support, showing them the sights of Devonport and surrounds, before returning to the SPOT in time for the night sailing.
Yours truly, having bid farewell in Campbell Town rode the Lake Leake/Swansea Coast Route home, before heading through Richmond where I saw Trevor, Wendy, Warren & Lyndell who had obviously ventured to this historic township, for some afternoon tea. On ya! guys!!
MMAA Tasmania Easter Trip 2011 verdict: A very enjoyable trip was encountered by all of which was conducted with good will, in good spirit and in good company.
Having prayed, well ok then, wished for good weather, my prayers/wishes were answered with excellent weather for the whole trip, which made for great riding without the need for wet weather gear or uncomfortable days in „the saddle‟.
Please make sure you visit the following web page to view photo‟s of the trip as taken by the Tasmanian members as they are uploaded:
www.lodgepembroke.org Then to the MMAA Tab at the top right hand side of the page or;
www.freemasonrytasmania.org Scroll down to the MMAA Tab
In closing, we, the MMAA Tasmanian Chapter thank all our guests from the Victorian, Central and NW NSW MMAA Chapters for taking the time to travel to Tasmania to participate in this, our inaugural MMAA Ride as hosts.
Ride safe, stay safe.............

In light of the fact that our sitting National President, Michael Lampadarios was unable to attend due to a loss in his family, the meeting was chaired by Roger (Lizard) Coates, who welcomed everyone on behalf of Michael and the club. Roger also extended a warm welcome to visitors to our meeting. Roger then explained to all the tragic loss of Michael’s son-in-law, Keegan Skinner, whose funeral was held yesterday on 28th January and was attended by representatives of both the Sydney & Central Coast Chapters. He explained that Keegans’ family were in need of support and would welcome any donation the club or its members could manage.
Roger asked all present if they had received the minutes of our previous AGM, which was held in Young NSW. All had. It was then asked if they were a true representation of that meeting. All agreed.

Motion: “That the minutes of the previous meeting held on 26 January 2008 as tabled be accepted.”
Moved: Dot Marshall
Seconded: Grant Bates
CARRIED

There was no business arising from the minutes of the previous meeting.

Secretary’s Report:
Correspondence: There was a huge amount of correspondence both inwards and outwards via email. Any member who wished access to it could ask Terry and it would be provided.
Terry Webster tabled the Membership Summary for period 1/11/09 to 31/10/10 which totalled 79 financial members. There had been twenty-six new members during the past year, with one application currently being processed.

MMAA National Rally Minutes template 2008 Page 1
MMAA National Rally Minutes template 2008 Page 2

Terry reported that as at the date of the meeting, there were still 34 members who had not paid their fees for 10/11. These members would be sent reminder emails, or contacted by phone to ascertain their status. It is expected that this number will drop considerably.
There had been 7 resignations from the club this year, approximately half from illness. Additionally, we lost our well respected Brother Hans Gyger who was the Sydney Chapter President at the time when his battle with Cancer got the best of him. He will be missed.
Terry advised that he had a small amount of stock with him, such as polo shirts, tee shirt and lapel pins. Any member wishing to purchase them could do so at the BBQ this evening. The BBQ will be put on by Victorian Chapter who are hosting this AGM. It will commence at 7:30PM at the Caravan Park. All members and visitors are welcome. There will be a $10 charge per person, which includes food and some beverages. Additionally, there will be raffle prizes at no extra charge.

Treasurers Report:
Terry tabled an income and expenditure report for the period 1/11/09 to 31/10/10 advising a Bank Balance as at 31/10/010 of $3,392.19. The current Bank Balance was $4,430.39 as at 25/1/11. Terry noted that some of those funds did not belong to the club as they were personal donations by club members towards the “Skinner Family” fund.
Capitation fees for the various chapters were calculated on the number of members being financial on the date of the AGM. For the benefit of those who do not know what capitation fees are, it was explained that 80% ($20) of a members annual fees ($25) paid to the National account on membership application are reimbursed to that members Chapter after each AGM, to assist them in their administrative and charitable endeavours.
Many members are part of the NSW (or National) Chapter and as such no capitation fees were required to be reimbursed for NSW Chapter.

The refunds for fees to other Chapters stand at:-
Sydney – 13 @ $20 = $260.
Central Coast
- 10 @ $20 = $200
NW NSW
– 6 @ $20 = $120
TAS
– 12 @ $20 = $240
VIC
– 18 @ $20 = $360

Terry Webster will tender a small account for badges, postage and stationery in the coming month. The only other account for payment at this date is for the webmasters fee, which is $240.00.
Motion: “That capitation fees totalling $1,180.00 (including 2 members fees paid today) and other accounts for payment be paid.”
Moved: Gary Duff
Seconded: Shane Mathies

Motion: “That the Treasurers’ report as tabled be accepted.”

Presidents Reports:

National President:
MICHAEL LAMPADARIOS
(as read by Roger Coates)
Firstly let me apologise for not being able to attend the 9th annual AGM. This is due to the sudden death of my Son in Law on the 21st of January just a couple of weeks ago. He left behind a Lovely wife and 2 children aged from 6 years old to 2 years old. This had hit my family very hard as you can imagine so please forgive me for not being there with you.
MMAA National Rally Minutes template 2008 Page 3
Since our last AGM which was held in Young NSW we have had several new members and also we have lost some. This is expected in any Club or Association.
Rides have been organised during the 2010 year. Has seen Members travel from Windsor NSW for the installation of Roger Lizard Coates into the Chair of his Lodge and also the installation of Shane Mathies into the Chair of his Lodge in Clifton Qld. Both these events were organised by the President of the Central Coast Chapter Gary Duff.
Other events that are organised for this year coming, see’s members travel to Tasmania. This will be in April. A good turnout is expected. I also make myself available to any position that I may be nominated for. I close now and wish all present a very good weekend in Tumut and hope to catch up with one and all very soon.
Sincerely,
Michael Lampadarios
National President MMAA Inc.
P.S.
I also nominate the following persons:-
Gary Duff for the position of National President.
Cathy Duff for National Secretary
Ray Barr for National Road Captain (not present due to his work but has excepted the nomination)

Central Coast
GARY DUFF
2010 has been a busy year for the Central Coast but rewarding. We have contributed to the local community in the form of supplying our bikes to camp breakaway to give severely handicapped children and adults’ rides on bikes. This is something we have been doing for a while. We have had many social rides – long rides like up to Toowoomba to see Big Shane. Our membership is growing. We have tried to lift the profile of the MMAA in the local area in sponsorship of a trophy for a hot rod show and also included in the district diary. We are in the late planning stages of our Easter ride to Tasmania. On a sad note, we must remember the passing of our dear friend and Brother, Hans, and more recently, the son-in-law of our National President taken at only 27 years of age. I feel 2011 will be a great year for the members of the Central Coast and all members of the MMAA.

NW NSW
TREVOR CAPARARO
Trevor explained that although they are still a small Chapter, they had been on several rides, including the installation events of Roger Coates in Windsor, NSW and Shane Mathies in Toowoomba, Qld. Additionally, NW NSW Chapter members had been on other rides with Central Coast Chapter and they are looking forward to another year of activity, fun and meeting new people.

Sydney
ROSS EBELING
Ross advised all that it had been a mixed year. The Chapter lost a wonderful member and it’s President Hans Gyger, early in the year as well as a couple of other members. There have been several new members to the Chapter and there have also been several very successful rides. There is also a possibility of a “Central Tablelands Chapter” being developed, so the attitude is all positive.

Victoria
GRANT BATES
Grant stated that Victorian Chapter had increased in size and had regular monthly rides, which were organised by our very efficient Ride Captain, Chris Packham. Our rides are predominantly social rides and Chris has established a blog site where our rides are readily accessed by members. Additionally, we had our Chapter Xmas dinner at the Melbourne Hilton. This was attended by many of our members as well as Gary & Cathie Duff, who flew down especially for the event and also Bojan Vizintin who was visiting Melbourne at the time. All in all, it has been a successful year, with no small thanks being attributed to the efforts of our super efficient Secretary, Dot Marshall and Ride Captain, Chris Packham.

Tasmania
RICK GONINON (as read by Terry Webster)
It has been 12 months since our last report and things have been progressing at a slow pace in Tasmania. We have picked up a few new members in the north of the island and are trying to
MMAA National Rally Minutes template 2008 Page 4
assist them in getting enough to form their own chapter. I have stood down as president due to other commitments and a new committee has been elected since November. Tony Bruce Mullins is now the new president and I wish him all the best in the following year. Monthly rides still continue on the second Sunday of each month with about 8 bikes attending on most runs. We look forward to the members who are coming over for the Easter ride and all communication should be sent to Craig Deane (sec) or Tony(pres).Final numbers and sailing dates need to be communicated for final preparations and would be appreciated if this could be done asap. MMAA TAS members have assisted in other Masonic displays which have helped introduce people into freemasonry and this has been a great success both for the MMAA and masonry in general. We also had attendance at the annual toy run. There have been several invitations to ride with other groups such as HOG and ULYSSES and we have joined these groups for some social rides and enjoyment. I would like to wish everyone the best for the future and hope that I will be able to attend next year’s agm.

General Business:
Bojan Vizintin suggested that we undertake, as an ongoing project, the care and consideration of Keegan & Alexandra Skinners two children. Discussion took place as to the viability and responsibility of this undertaking, with no clear resolution taken. It was, however, decided that in the interim, donations would be collected for a Skinner Family fund. Grant Bates stated that Victorian Chapter would donate $500 towards the fund. Gary Duff stated that Central Coast would offer the same. Terry Webster was asked what funds were available from the National fund, with the result being that $1000 was committed towards the fund from the national account. Other Chapters and individuals offered assistance.
Motion: “That $1,000 be donated from the MMAA National account to the Skinner Family Fund” Moved: Terry Webster
Seconded: Ross Ebeling
CARRIED

Trevor Capararo raised the issue of AGM venues and put forward the idea that each Chapter could choose to have the AGM in close proximity to their area. This would mean that AGM’s would be held interstate e.g. Tasmania, Qld, Victoria and NSW, depending on who was hosting the AGM each year. Much discussion ensued, particularly taking into account the fact that the centralised idea was to ensure maximum attendance, given that our club is still in the growing stage with the majority of members domiciled in NSW. Trevor suggested that the Easter ride to Tasmania would be the ideal venue and timing for this discussion to take place. Greg Marshall suggested a committee be formed to discuss this and Bojan Vizintin recommended one person from each Chapter be on the committee.
It was decided that this committee would be formed during the Easter Tassie trip and full feedback and info would be provided to the membership after the Tassie meeting. The outcome from this meeting will formulate a motion to be put at the next AGM (2012).
Neal Gardiners proposal that an “Executive Committee” comprised of one member of each NSW Chapter be formed to govern / administer activities between NSW Chapters and all NSW members. Although the recommendation covered more issues and offered the option of a centralised committee being overseer and mentor to all NSW Chapters and mentors. Various recommendations were offered, including :-
All NSW Chapter members who are not affiliated with a specific chapter are aligned with the nearest chapter to them. This however would not work with unattached members in Qld, W.A, and N.T, so the concept was refused.
The resultant decision was suggested by Grant Bates, which was:- That every single ride, activity or function being held by the MMAA, would be promulgated to every MMAA member, Australia-wide. This would ensure that any visiting or travelling member would be kept updated on activities.
Motion: “That the national membership contact list be given to each Chapter President/Secretary”
Moved: Grant Bates
Seconded: Andrew Duff
CARRIED

Roger Coates then declared all positions vacant and asked for nominations for Office Bearers. The following motions were put and carried:-

Gary Duff assumed the role of National President and chaired the rest of the meeting. Gary thanked Roger for undertaking the days’ proceedings and particularly thanked Michael Lampadarios (in his absence) for his unswerving and continued service to our club.
It was also noted that the National Association’s bank account details / authorities with NAB be changed to include Gary Duff and Andrew Duff as signatories and that other signatories no longer actively involved in account transactions will be removed from the authority.
National Rally 2012:
Central Coast Chapter was appointed to organise the AGM for 2012.
There being no further business the meeting concluded at 5:25pm.

APRIL 2011, TASMANIA WEEKEND AWAY

Dear members and fellow riders,

Ten MMAA members from the mainland (on 9 bikes), travelled to Tasmania via the Spirit of Tasmania, over the Easter period for what we intend to be the first of our “State Tours”. This is completely separate from our AGM events.

We were met in Devonport by several members of the Tasmanian Chapter, who led us on an excellent trip down to Hobart. Using the Discovery Caravan Park in Risdon as our “base”, we travelled to the central midlands and the South-East coast on our day trips. The weather was excellent and everyone had a fantastic time seeing some absolutely magnificent sights. Most of us returned yesterday, but the 4 attendees from NW NSW Chapter have stayed a few days longer and will leave Tassie tomorrow.

Our Tassie Chapter brothers (and sisters) went out of their way to ensure we were well accompanied and looked after. They were exceptional hosts and their efforts were greatly appreciated by all visitors. On one ride, we had eighteen bikes and twenty members. Tas Chapter were the perfect hosts and we look forward to being able to reciprocate their hospitality and planned activities at our next joint ride, but their effort will be extremely hard to equal. I have attached one small pic of the Victorian attendees at one of our rest stops. This indicates the mood for the entire trip.

During the week-end, a couple of members mentioned that they had not received the minutes of our AGM in Tumut. I sent these out on 22nd February, but have attached them again (as a pdf file) to this message for your information. If you have a problem opening them, please let me know and I’ll send it to you in word format.

For those members who attended any ride on the Tassie Tour, a badge is being made for the event. I would appreciate being advised by everyone who attended if they would like a badge. Cost is yet to be confirmed as they will be in the shape of Tasmania, which will involve some additional artwork charge by the embroiderer. I envisage each badge will cost below $20. PLEASE let me know asap so that I can work on numbers to order.

Kind Regards,

TERRY WEBSTER

National Administration Officer

25th September 2010 RIDE TO CLIFTON QLD.

IMG_0014

Shane (Big Shane) Mathies Installation into the Chair of

Lodge Clifton QLD.

On the 24th of September saw several MMAA Members from Sydney, Central Coast ride up to Tamworth to meet up with other Members from the N.W. (Tamworth) Chapter.

For a trip up to Clifton QLD. For the Installation of Shane Mathies into the Chair of Lodge Clifton which is located 40k's south of Toowoomba QLD. This is a very old Lodge dating back to 1896.

On the morning of the 25th the 7 of us set off at around 6:30 in the morning.

IMG_0008

The trip started off well until Wendy's bike broke down. Turn out the regulator had shorted out and the bike was left behind and we continued the trip with Wendy on the back of Trevor her partner.

IMG_0010

The weather held off for us except for the little rain we got after we crossed the border. We arrive at around 3pm and we settled in the Cabins and got duded up for the evenings event. The Lodge tyled at 4pm.

IMG_0011

This was the first time any of us from N.S.W. had seen the QLD Installation. We were taken back by the slight deference's.

The South was packed. The meal was fantastic.

After all the Toast's were done. Michael Lampadarios (MMAA National President) and Trevor Capararo (President of the N.W.(Tamworth) Chapter made several presentations on behalf of the M.M.A.A. as a whole to Shane Mathies.

IMG_0016

This was comprised of a Bottle of Wine especially Labelled with the MMAA Logo and a set off Cufflinks. This was to express the many thanks for all the support Shane has given to the MMAA over the years, to ride very long distances to our events.

His last big ride was to Windsor N.S.W. for the installation into the Chair of our Good friend Roger (Lizard) Coates which would have taken him more then 13 hours of travel time to get there.  As it took us a good 12 hours to ride back, this also included several stops for fuel and food.

We all had a Great Weekend. Shane also had a Great Night and wishes to thank the MMAA Members for taking the time to go all the way up to Clifton for his Installation.

We were also deeply sorry we could not stay longer and spend time with him but we had to rush back as several members had to get back for work.

I personally would like to thank the following MMAA Members who came to Clifton.

We wish Shane all the best in his time a Master of his Lodge and we know he will do his best as he is a True Mason and a True Human being.

Presidents Report:
National President:
MICHAEL LAMPADARIOS

Welcome one and all to the 8th annual AGM of the Masonic Motorcycle Association of Australia Inc.

This welcome is extended to all who had made the long trip to be here. A big welcome goes to our Tasmania Brethren who travel by Bike, Ferry and then by Bike again to be here. Also to our visitors who had made a special effort to come down to our AGM and spend their weekend with us.

As you might not be aware there has been allot of changes since our last AGM in 2009 members have the ability to check for any rides that may be organized by accessing the events calendar on our web site. They have been active with rides and activities ranging from single ride days to participating in organized rides with other clubs. Also been informed by email.

All Chapters have been out and about, on day rides, Charity Runs, BBQ’s.

Victoria Chapter, NSW Central Coast Chapter and NSW Sydney Chapter had some really good rides during the year. Charity Rides being the most frequent ones attended.

The MMAA attended the Wombat’s Wish Ride which was held on the 18th of October 2009. We were pleased to be able to present the organisers with a cheque for $3,500 to assist them in these activities. This is a great charity that we are very proud to be a part of and we are very grateful that Freemasons Victoria matched our fundraising dollar for dollar. Well done Vic Chapter and special thanks to "MAL" Hurst who organised our attendance and GL's $ for $ contribution for our donation, and also for his own personal contribution. Thanks also to National Chapter for supporting our presence by way of a donation. Great work everyone!

Recently Terry Webster and myself had flags and stickers made up with the MMAA logo. These will be available very soon for all members to display on their Bikes. The NSW Central Coast and Tasmania Chapters had their own flags made. Also available Hand out Club cards, made up for anyone who may want to hand out to Bike riders who may be interested in joining. We have placed them in Bike shops and at Cafes frequent by Riders on the weekends. They are well accepted by other Motorbike Clubs.
I hope this trend continues in the future. Now that we have several new Chapters under our belt we can spread our name around.

Tasmania being the newest Chapter to be formed. Was formed on the 1st of February 2009 with Rick Goninon coming in as Chapter President and Craig Deane as Secretary and with several other chapters in the pipeline.

Even had an inquiry from New Zealand for the formation of a Chapter over there.

Also as the National President I would like to say a very big thank you to all those members who have stuck by the MMAA in the hard times and the good times. And to all new members that have come aboard in 2009.

Members like Terry Webster (National Membership Officer)
From the very beginnings of the MMAA stuck by it and went out of his way to promote the MMAA, went on to become the Founding Member of the Victorian Chapter. And later the 3rd National President (taking over from Cliff Hobson) and finally the National Membership Officer. He has done a brilliant job not only in contacting members from all over Australia but also going to Grand Lodge in Victoria and getting the MMAA recognized in Victoria. Terry to you I say a Very Big Thank you and am proud to call you friend.

Dot & Greg Marshall
Greg and Dot are a really great couple. Since the very start they have attained every AGM. They do not ride their bikes to the AGM but tow them on the trailer. They manage to come to every AGM the MMAA has had from its beginnings. Thank you, Dot for being our National Treasurer/Secretary & to continue in that role. Nor would our members be advised on when their dues are due for renewal. To you Dot I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Also I would like to thank Greg for his full support of Dot on taking on these roles. To you Greg a very big thank you, not only from me but every member in the MMAA.

Grant Bates (Victoria Chapter President)
For putting up with Terry and me, plus all the hassles he had with his motorbike. Firstly breaking down at our very first get-together, spent all weekend trying to chase down a battery for it then founding out the Computer packed it in, then having to tow it back to Melbourne on Greg’s Trailer and second for coming in strife with an echidna. The echidna got the worse of it, but Grant was not left untouched he was pretty sore for a good while after that and even tried riding the battered bike back down to Melbourne. And after getting the bike back on the road, what happens, another accident. Now he is riding a Ducati. Grant I say thank you for staying in there. And stay upright for god’s sake.

Roger Coates. (National Vice President)
Now what can one say about Roger or Lizard as he likes to be known. Roger Joined the MMAA in Victoria and from the first time he & I met we became very good friends. Now some may look at Roger for the very first time and think he does not look like a Mason. We get that allot at Lodge’s we attend with together as a group. But let me tell you this. Roger (Lizard) would and will help you out to the best of his ability. He will defend and promote MMAA without question. With the help of Lizard efforts we would not have our Road Rules. Which he personally approached the H.O.G. Club to get their permission to adopt their Road Rules for our own? And he is a stickler for the Rules and expects all to follow them. I included. To you Lizard I say thank you.

Gary & Cathie Duff (NSW Central Coast Chapter President)
Gary and wife Cath are from the NSW Central Coast a member of the MMAA he wanted to make sure the Central Coast Chapter did not fold due to lack in numbers. Which at one stage its numbers dropped down to only 4 active members? He went out of his way to build up and sustain the Chapter with members. Organized rides for the Central Coast members and also inviting the members from Sydney Chapter to attend. He then decided to take over as Chapter President and Wife Cath took on the role and Treasurer/Secretary of the Chapter. Thought not many meetings were had in 2009. He had organized a couple BBQ’s and a Christmas diner night at the local club. Gary & Cath thank you.

Trevor & Wendy Capararo.
Now Trevor and Wendy. Well where we will start. Terry and I first met this fine couple on the Central Coast when Terry came up for the Harleys 100 Birthday celebrations. We mentioned the MMAA to Trevor and Wendy and they joined that year as Associate members. Trevor also last year was initiated in Freemasonry and is due to proceed to the third in April of this year. Those who would like to be there for this occasion please do so. Several members from Victoria, Sydney, Central Coast and Tamworth will be in attendance.

Tony Bruce-Mullins for getting brethren together to form our Tasmania Chapter. With Rick Goninon coming in as Chapter President. Tasmania Chapter have had several rides and by their web site the rides were great. And they are also allowed to wear their bike gear into Lodge without any conflict. This is what we should be doing, promoting Motorcycling in Freemasonry and Freemasonry into the Motorcycling community. A very well done to all involved.

The Gardiner Brothers
Neal Gardiner (National Communications Officer).
Neal has tried his best to communicate with all members in regards to rides and events. He also had a bit of bad luck with his bike recently had a tree fall on it and did some damage. He is up and riding again.

Terry Gardiner (National Road Captain)
Has been out on rides with other clubs, and with the MMAA. He is promoting the MMAA his way. Terry himself had a miss hap on his Bike, came unstuck and had the bike written off and was given a brand new one by the insurance company. Lucky him. Many thanks to Neal & Terry

Hans (Sydney Chapter President)
Hans is the president of our Sydney Chapter and has the experience this Association needs years of riding, he has insight and the knowledge on how to do things. But he had to put these on the back burner due to health reasons. Hans please keep up the battle and if you need someone to talk to I am sure our members will be there for you, anytime anywhere.

I would also like to say a big thank you to Big Shane who rode down to our last AGM and to Tamworth from Toowoomba QLD. Shane you are always welcome and I personally would like to thank you for your support and hope to come up to QLD when we get a Chapter starting up there.

There are so many others I would like to thank for making 2009 a very good year for the MMAA in general. Over all we are looking very good.

I thank you all for your attendance here today and wish you all a very safe trip to your home and family.

Michael reminded members that merchandise was available for order for members via the Website http://www.themmaa.com.au

Michael extended an invitation to all interested MMAA members to attend the 3rd Degree of Trevor Capararo (NW NSW) in April 2010.

Michael expressed his thanks to both Trevor and Wendy Capararo for organising such a successful 2010 AGM.

Central Coast/Sydney President:
GARY DUFF

Gary Duff advised that the CC/S Chapter were going well. Rides were organised and well attended and they also had some prospective members.

NW NSW
TREVOR CAPARARO (Acting President)

Trevor Capararo advised that after a successful beginning, the Chapter had hit a stumbling block. The highlight of 2009 was the April Masonic Visit to Tamworth for his Masonic initiation “1st Degree”. Trevor requested all members interested in attending his “3rd Degree” in April 2010 to RSVP directly to him.

Sydney
HANS GYGER

Sydney MMAA Chapter had a rocky start to the year due to issues concerning the re - establishment and re – consecration of lodge Highway where for a while the Sydney Chapter of the MMAA was side tracked toward the tasks of forming a motorcycle lodge in the Sydney region.

Once it was brought to every ones attention that the MMAA was a social motorcycle enthusiasts group consisting of people with a Masonic background and not involved in running or establishing Masonic lodges or any other Masonic business. Resolving this confusion regretfully caused some members of Sydney Chapter to resign.

Sydney Chapter had some well attended and successful rides during the year mostly combined with Central Coast Chapter as currently both chapters suffer a lack of membership.

Sydney Chapter members also attended the Sydney Pink Ribbon ride November 1 2009 which raised close to $40,000.00 to support breast cancer research.

Due to the lack of active members in Sydney Chapter the decision was made at Sydney Chapter meeting held January 25 2010 at Young that unless our membership was boosted and more members encouraged to participate in chapter activities Sydney Chapter would merge with Central Coast Chapter which would result in a strong workable group of about 20 members.

Some suggestions were made for rides etc. which will be looked into by the chapter secretary before Sydney Chapters AGM.

The final decision for this merger will be made at Sydney Chapter AGM which will be held in March 2010.

Victoria President:
GRANT BATES

Victoria has had a very successful year, and even though there have been a few resignations, we currently have a total number of 20 members in the Victoria Chapter.

We have held 6 General “Breakfast” Meetings throughout the year as well as 5 organised rides which have been well attended.

Our most successful effort has been the donating of $3,500.00 (made up of members donations; chapter funds; a contribution from the MMAA National Body; and a dollar for dollar donation by Grand Lodge of Victoria) to The Wombat’s Wish Memorial Charity and Open Run held in Geelong on Sunday 18 October 2009 . It was well attended and was a very successful day, having a story published both in the local papers and the Freemasonry Victoria Magazine. Our Christmas Function held in November 2009 at the Melba at the Langham Hotel in Southbank was well attended and enjoyed by all.

We are looking forward to another good year with our current Road Captain Chris Packham organising rides.

Grant thanked NW NSW for the organising of the Young AGM and Tasmania Chapter for their company with regard to riding as a group to Young.

General Business:

Regalia Logo re Breast Patch
Terry Webster discussed the proposal to change the MMAA Breast Patch to reflect that we are a national Australian organisation.
